Ahnooje: What’s in a name?
People often ask, “How did you come up with the name for Ahnooje Company?” We love to tell the story! We had been searching for a name that nobody else would have and weighing the risks of starting a business. We finally decided that if God would give us a good name, then we were going to do it! We tried searching hundreds of names, but without any success. Our oldest son was 2 years old at the time, and he was just learning to talk. He loved oranges, but he couldn’t say orange. He called it an “Ahnooje.” The name grew on us, and we decided it would be a good name for our business…but then how would we spell it? Our son came to the rescue once again! We wrote down every possible way that we could spell it and sat it in front of him one day at breakfast. We asked him, “Which one of these says Ahnooje?” He looked at them all and confidently pointed to this one.
So how do you say Ahnooje? Great question! It is pretty much just how it looks…Ah-new-zsh. The first part is like you are saying “Ah” for the doctor. The last part kind of makes a “zsh” sound like the French ‘J’ in the name Jean Claude Van Damme.
